ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The Low Road is Seeing the Magic Production's first feature film. Our motivation was to create a movie with meaning; to tell a powerful and compelling story that gives voice to the thousands of people across the world affected by self-harm and suicide.

The script was based on lived experience, much of the story leaning into Sophie, our producer's, personal history, along with real-life stories from family and friends.

In addition to crafting a cinematic story that deeply moves and inspires audiences, we wanted to shine a ray of light into the dark place of suffering with mental health.​

Filmed on location in the Trossachs and Highlands of Scotland in Summer 2023, The Low Road showcases some of Scotland's most iconic and spectacular scenery. Utilising the power of the wilderness to enhance the emotional storytelling of Ellie's inward journey, our protagonist is transformed by her time in nature.

THE MAGIC JUST KEPT SHOWING UP...
This was a film born of a cause; to raise awareness and compassion for the millions of people whose lives are touched by suicide and self-harm.
We wanted to make a crackin' film that, beyond raising awareness, takes audiences on a journey that will stay in their heart forever.
We had a small cast, a small crew, and big ideas!
Pulling together an incredible cast from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and working with a dedicated small crew we shot over four glorious weeks of sunshine in May/June 2023 (a feat for the Scottish weather!).
It continued to surprise and move us, that with every person we reached out to for support or use of a location, they had a story of a family member who had either taken their life or been affected by suicide.
Seasoned Scottish actor, Ewan Stewart (Titanic, Rob Roy) welcomed a very special guest appearance in The Low Road, which was his last movie.
There was an energy of ‘good luck’ and an upswelling of support for this production. When people feel a cause that matters, they go above and beyond. This was the journey of The Low Road from script to Silver Screen. As all involved observed and contributed to the magic that just kept showing up!
